Lars Erup has over 37 years’ experience in satellite and wireless communications, with special emphasis on physical and MAC layer techniques and their interaction with end-to-end systems aspects. Before founding ETC, he has held a number of positions in the satellite and wireless industries as well as in International Organisations.

Most recently he was with VT iDirect, where he made significant contributions to adaptive transmission schemes, including introducing these into the system deployed on the Inmarsat Global Xpress Ka-band system. He also worked on several new and improved techniques for iDirect’s TDMA modems. Before that, Mr. Erup worked in a similar capacity at EMS/Advantech Satellite Networks.

Prior to that, Mr. Erup worked at the European Space Agency for an extended period, during which he contributed to several of the Agency’s experimental satellite programmes (ECS, Olympus, Artemis) as well as to more basic research into digital communications techniques. This included both own research and management of activities carried out by industrial and academical organisations.

Throughout much of his career, he has been deeply involved in standardisation activities for terrestrial and, in particular, satellite systems. This has included 2.5G cellular (ETSI SMG-2) and many satellite-related ETSI standards prepared by the DVB consortium (DVB-S2, DVB-RCS, DVB-RCS2, DVB-S2x). He has served as editor for several versions of the DVB-RCS standard and as vice chairman of TIA TR-34.

Mr. Erup holds the Akademiingeniør degree (B. Sc. Hons.) from the Technical University of Denmark. Throughout his long career, he has built an extensive network of contacts in Industry, National and International Government organisations as well as in Academia.
